Culture

Memengwaa is Indigenous and Latin owned, founded in 2022 by Andréa Mororo, fulfilling the dream of creating an inclusive sanctuary for independent artists to nurture their own unique voice within a collaborative and vibrant environment. Departing from the conventional salon model, Memengwaa is collective of curl artists, colorists, and makers who come together to create an original and authentic experience for our clients. We provide an eco-conscious, collaborative open space where our artists assist you in realizing your personal vision of self-liberation and empowerment.

Memengwaa’s birth came in honor of Andréa’s grandmother, an Indian Boarding School survivor. Striving to redefine the beauty industry standards that exist today by celebrating individual roots and culture. The salon's core values and ethics are reflected in its passionate attention to detail.

Recognizing the impact on the environment, Memengwaa places emphasis on self-love with a minimal carbon footprint, seeing it as an act of resistance in our ever-changing, fast-paced society. The salon is dedicated to the art and the guest, prioritizing community over competition. By sharing knowledge and dispelling misconceptions or “fluff” about curl care, Memengwaa fosters long lasting relationships with guests. Andréa understands that our hair is a reflection of our personal story, communicating with the outside world. Therefore, the artists at Memengwaa inspire to bring innovative techniques to every client.

Andréa wants her artists to embrace creative freedom and independence, which is why the salon is named 'Memengwaa'. The name pays homage to what ignites our inner joy, authenticity, and unique gifts that we contribute to the world. It also represents the growth and transformation we experience at every stage of life.

We invite you to step into the oasis we have lovingly built.
